TAUMATA at Tempo Dance Festival

On Saturday WE'AR were lucky enough to attend the opening performance of TAUMATA: Four Short Works at Tempo Dance Festival. On the Rangatira main stage at Q Theatre, we were treated to some stunning dancing and saw one of our new season garments stretched against skin in an inspiring display of movement.

'Sisters of the Black Crow' by Foster Group was one of the pieces in the show and provided a gutsy, visceral performance from three stunning and fiercely committed women. The dancers (Rose Philpott, Jahra Rager Wasasala and Grace Woollett) were costumed in our Slink Dress which emphasised the feminine form while giving an injection of vibrant colour to a bare stage and starkly dim lighting state. Choreographed by Sarah Foster-Sproull, 'Sisters of the Black Crow' invoked ceremony, sacrifice and divine feminine energy.

The piece was just one of four in the show - the evenings programme was richly varied with work from New Zealand Dance Company, Okareka Dance Company and The Royal New Zealand Ballet. A fantastic night which truly showcased the emerging talent of contemporary dance here in New Zealand.
