Inspired by the hugely successful Bali Spirit Festival and Byron Spirit Festival, NZ Spirit Festival feat. Xavier Rudd returns in 2019 and promises a vibrant celebration of well-being in all of its forms. Featuring local and international talent, this truly bespoke festival is centered around the enriching traditions of yoga, music, dance and knowledge-sharing.
Passionately grounded in the indigenous heritage of Aotearoa, culture, community and environment form the founding principles of the event, with a multi-faceted selection of workshops, performances, art installations and ceremonies over 3 days.
NZ Spirit Festival was created by Nikki Rhodes and Franko Heke - partners in business and in life - whose own journeys towards health and wellbeing led them to bring people together in real and purposeful ways.
NZ Spirit Festival is a truly experiential festival. Days are filled with transformational workshops in yoga, sustainability, health & wellness, movement, indigenous culture and the future of food. Evenings are spent listening to live and electronic music acts on one of the 3 stages, dancing to live drums at the tribal zone, watching mesmerizing fire performances or connecting with new friends underneath the chai tent.
NZ Spirit Festival is grounded in the belief that connection, community and purpose play a vital role in health. It is this ethos that drives the various events and accelerates the healing of those looking for an alternative to the Western model of illness management. Turning towards ancient modalities, such as yoga, mediation, breathwork, dance and mantra highlights the accessibility of wellness - it is something that simply doesn’t need to cost a huge amount to achieve. Recognising the wealth of indigenous wisdom in the sheer longevity of so many of these practices, NZ Spirit Festival seeks to reconnect everyone to their purpose, their culture and one another.
Determined to highlight the benefits of returning to a simpler, more fulfilling lifestyle, the Festival is alcohol-free with a focus on accessible plant-based food choices and honest conversations. By removing the clouding that often occurs when adults get together, the Festival serves as a places where attendees can be fully present and begin the return inwards through mindfulness and self-awareness practices. A lessening of suppressed emotion, more space before reacting and an overall lightness are some of the many comments made after showing up in this clear way.
NZ Spirit Festival is committed to the preservation, transmission and celebration of tikanga Māori. Indigenous wisdom is revered as an integral part of NZ Spirit Festival’s kaupapa and traditions, practices and taonga from all First Nations’ groups are actively encouraged to contribute. NZ Spirit Festival features a significant number of presenters, performers and contributors who identify as Māori.
What to expect? Inspirational knowledge sharing, cutting-edge musical performances, vibrant art installations, pioneering environmental initiatives, indigenous wisdom celebrations, world-class food vendors and a conscious market hub.
