A modern twist on a traditional Japanese method, our Rhyme’s Shibu print celebrates the influence of ancient history.
Named after Shibori, a Japanese manual resist dyeing technique, which produces patterns on fabric, our very own Shibu print features layers of tonal hues which creates a unique design.
The inspiration for our print came from Iwatate Folk Textile Museum in Tokyo where they showcase pre industrialisation pieces of textile production from the pre mid-twentieth century.
Our workshop used the artisanal method inspired by ancient Japanese printing techniques which we now refer to as screen printing or silk screen. Screen printing is one of the earliest methods of printing. It involves the passing of ink through a mesh or 'screen' that has been stretched on a frame, and to which a stencil has been applied.
Just like us, every piece created from the fabric is slightly different and unique.
